American Idolatry:

Christian nationalism threatens not only the church in the U.S. but the very foundations of democracy that undergird this country. So, how should Christians confront this dangerous idolatry while also listening to and following the lead of people on the margins who inspire us to follow Jesus?

The Clergy Emergency League will talk with Andrew L. Whitehead, author of American Idolatry: How Christian Nationalism Betrays the Gospel and Threatens the Church about his journey of study, faith, and public theology.  As a sociologist and leading expert on Christian Nationalism, Dr. Whitehead will discuss the ways in which power, fear, and violence conflict with core gospel beliefs and how Christian clergy can help their congregations resist this heresy.
